I joined the life coaching industry in 2007 after a twenty-seven year long corporate career that spanned disciplines as diverse as civil engineering construction, IT programme management and internal communications.
Now, after 15 years dedicated to providing quality training for people who wish to become exceptional life coaches, I still have fire in my belly for this amazing industry.
I honestly believe that life coaching stands out as a beacon of light in a world in which, let’s face it, some dark clouds have been gathering of late.
An invitation to join us
In today’s post I’m going to go off the traditional script a little.
Quite unashamedly, I would like to invite those of you who are not already life coaches, but who have a passion for people and a desire to bring more light to our troubled world, to consider joining New Insights in delivering on our mission:
“To bring greater personal freedom, self-confidence and growth to people from all walks of life, through life coaching.”
Quite frankly, we need you; our world needs you!
Frustration, despondency and…
Hardly a day goes by when I don’t hear of someone new who has lapsed into frustration, despondency, anxiety and even, sadly, depression and despair.
And I’m not even talking about those poor people ravaged by war, famine and/or poverty … I’m talking about ordinary middle class people like you and me.
The need for validation – and the trap
As humans, we share a deep need to feel loved, valued and appreciated.
The current world order has been designed in such a way that we are conditioned to look externally for the validation that we crave.
But in this lies a trap.
Materialism and ‘success’
In the current world order, materialism dominates as the means by which the success of individuals is judged by others.
Those who can demonstrate celebrity lifestyles, flashy cars and opulent houses are far more likely to be looked up to as role models of success than those who struggle to make ends meet each month.
Willing slaves
It’s no wonder then, that many people forego doing what they love in favour of pursuing jobs and careers that hold out the promise of better financial rewards.
Many knowingly accept that by doing so they will be required to sacrifice family and leisure time, personal freedom and general happiness. In effect they become ‘willing slaves’.
Aspirations are one thing but the reality is often something quite different.
As we know, the law of supply and demand dictates that, for the great majority of ordinary people, salaries and wages will be pitched at, or perhaps marginally above, the bare minimum required to retain them.
Hours of work are no different. Don’t have the stamina to work a 40-50 hour week and stay on call over weekends? Then step aside for someone who does. There are plenty of fish in the employment sea!
Life force sucked away
Of course, the current world order is supported and promoted by a relatively small group of greedy elites who use it to feather their gilded nests and entrench their authority and power.
As such, the order is wholly dependent on the vast majority of ordinary people, like you and me, being lured into the trap and kept there by the promise of achieving that hollow definition of success.
Once enmeshed in the trap, one’s time, energy and, ultimately, life force, is slowly sucked away.
Break out of the trap
If this sounds dramatic, it is. We’re speaking about people’s lives, livelihoods and feelings. But don’t worry, there is a solution.
Transformational life coaching – the form promoted by my company, New Insights – offers a simple, yet powerful intervention that can guide one to break out of the trap and journey towards a far more exciting future.
It starts by making people consciously aware of the conditioning they have been exposed to, and then sets about undoing that.
Authentic validation comes from within
Yes. It is true that we share a deep desire to feel loved, valued and appreciated. The difference is that, through life coaching, we come to recognise the fact that authentic validation must come from within.
Whereas the current world order seeks to minimise our inner power, create self doubt and promote dependency on the system, life coaching helps us to achieve the exact opposite.
Visualising and manifesting our future reality
We are trained to visualise in detail the life we truly desire, We are encouraged to set clear intentions, take decisive action and accept full responsibility for the outcomes of those actions.
We are encouraged to identify and interrogate the belief and value systems that drive our behaviours. We are assisted to root out those beliefs and values that do not serve us in achieving our intentions, while capitalising fully on those that do.
We are taught about the power of thought and how it is the genesis of creation. We are offered tools and techniques to help build empowering thoughts that promote the manifestation of the reality that we desire for ourselves.
Re-connecting with our purpose
Ultimately, we are shown how to re-connect with the purpose for which we are here and given the tools to live a purpose driven life in which we derive joy, fulfilment and satisfaction from contributing to the greater good.

Your post gave me goosebumps Bill. My study with New Insights and the subsequent change of career have changed my life. Life Coaching is indeed a beautiful profession and so very much needed for humanity to shine a light on their innate ability to love and honor themselves from the heart space as opposed to the head/Ego space. Thank you Bill!
And thank you too Yolande, for the beautiful comments!

“It starts by making people consciously aware…” Those words capture the essence of coaching so accurately. Thank you, Bill. What a fulfilling career being a New Insights Life Coach has brought me. What bliss, as I lead a purpose-driven life, empowering others along the way, through the skills they learn during their New Insights journey, to reach their true potential.
So wonderful to hear – thanks Karen!
