Becoming Flawesome – A Book Review

Home » Becoming Flawesome – A Book Review

Every now and again a new book graces the personal development scene that makes one sit up and take notice.

Becoming Flawesome is one of those.

The book is written by Kristina Mänd-Lakhiani, co-founder of the Mindvalley life transformation platform, and published by Hay House.

I had the privilege to read Kristina’s work recently and I have to say it was an absolute delight.

The perfect complement

The wisdom imparted in her book is a perfect complement to the various topics and learnings we present in the New Insights Life Coach Training Programme. I strongly recommend this book to all of our trainees and, indeed, anyone with an interest in personal transformation.

Kristina offers a great many powerful, life transforming insights in a captivating eight-part journey, punctuated by helpful reflection points and practical exercises.

Sincerity and simplicity

In my opinion, the real beauty of this book lies in the sincerity and simplicity of Kristina’s writing style. She has mastered the ability to convey challenging concepts in a way that the reader is able to relate to them with comparative ease.

I read the book in the conventional way, starting with Part 1 and ending with the Conclusion. I’m glad I did as each part of the book builds cleverly on those that precede it.

That said, let me skip to the conclusion and share a few passages that I think aptly summarise the theme of her book:

“Life is spontaneous, unpredictable, unique and ever-changing. Life is full of opposites and contradictions that beautifully coexist.”

“… people ask for a recipe [to deal with this uncertainty].”

“Yet it is our attempt at making uncertain things certain that creates complexity.”

“[Life] is not a military march but a ballroom dance where life is your partner … You will only be able to perform if you are in tune with your partner, if you follow the music and are aware of your surroundings.”

The power of music

The ballroom dance analogy really resonated with me. I appreciate the power of music to liberate inhibitions and I love dancing to my own ungainly rhythm.

But when a dance is too structured and I sense expectations of others to perform, I quickly grow two left feet.

The essence of Kristina’s message

And that is where I take heart from what I believe to be the essence of Kristina’s message:

We are all unique. We each dance with our own style to a different beat. We need to tune out the expectations of others and tune in to who we really are. We need to learn the art of self love. We need to stop taking life so seriously and to embrace what we have been conditioned to regard as imperfections, or flaws, as part of our unique identities.

By ‘becoming flawesome’ we can find happiness and enjoy inner peace.

As Kristina so eloquently puts it, “Your only moral duty and responsibility is to be happy and at peace with yourself. This is your biggest gift to the world.”

Happiness is not a selfish pursuit. We cannot give of our best if we are not living at our best.

Happiness is not some prize to be had at the end of a journey. It is a way of living, or dancing, in harmony with the exciting, inspiring yet unpredictable beat of life.

Step-by-step guide

In Becoming Flawesome, Kristina offers a step-by-step guide to finding the path back to you and transforming the way you live.

By absorbing the knowledge and wisdom, and using the guidance offered to apply it in your own life, you will find your personal truth, heighten your self awareness and learn about the value of imperfection.

You will harness the power of honesty, kindness and courage to bring about a happier, more fulfilling and meaningful life.

A wonderful journey

Thank you, Kristina, for taking me on this wonderful journey with your thought provoking book.

Becoming Flawesome has reminded me of the importance of the work we do to equip New Insights life coaches to help bring about personal transformation in those who are ready to embark on an exciting new life.

I recommend you consider buying and reading Kristina’s work. I have no doubt you’ll be pleased you did!
