Visualise a desired future situation with great clarity, feeling and regularity and you are bound to realise it.
As all good life coaches know, the process of setting great goals is an important stepping stone towards living the life you love. But just setting goals is not enough to ensure they are achieved.
You have to really want what it is that you are chasing. Or as some would say, you have to demonstrate and hold clear intent.
Visualisation is such a demonstration of intent.
[box type=\”shadow\”]\”My method is different. I do not rush into actual work. When I get a new idea, I start at once building it up in my imagination, and make improvements and operate the device in my mind. When I have gone so far as to embody everything in my invention, every possible improvement I can think of, and when I see no fault anywhere, I put into concrete form the final product of my brain.\”

Harnessing the subconscious
Visualisation works by harnessing the power of your subconscious mind, which is unable to distinguish between reality and that which is imagined with sufficient clarity and detail.
By imagining a desired event or situation vividly and frequently enough your subconscious mind will assume it is part of your future reality and will work, ‘behind the scenes’ to bring it to fruition.
Your reality starts with your thoughts
Everything that you have created or caused to happen in your life started out as a thought.
Your thoughts are powerful rockets of energy that initiate the manifestation process. But that process cannot complete unless it is underpinned by your genuine intent.
(We can be thankful for this, or we might be confronted with all manner of strange products of our off-the-cuff imaginations!)
You can demonstrate your intent by consistently holding a passionate vision of your desired outcome.
Clarity, regularity and consistency
In other words, to bring a desired situation to reality you must think about it with clarity, regularity and consistency.
Describing a goal and placing that description somewhere where you will be reminded about it every day, is a powerful tool to help with this. But in order to describe the goal in such a way that makes it something more than just a bunch of words, you must first visualise it. By this, I mean make it reality inside your mind.
For your subconscious to start to believe that this is future reality your visualisations should be as clear, detailed and emotive as possible.
Imaging you have a dream to build a wonderful new home for your family in five years from now. How will it look from the outside. What views will you have from the house? How many rooms will it have? What colours will you paint the rooms? What sort of finishings will there be? How will you make best use of glass and light? What will it feel like to live in the home? What will your family say when they see it for the first time?
Discipline and focus
Visualisation may seem like a simple concept … and it is! But the stresses and pressures of modern day living have conspired to strip us of the time and focus we need for this process.
You need to be disciplined if you are to find the time and space to build a clear vision of that which you desire in your mind.
It’s best to allow yourself regular time to step away from all your day-to-day commitments and demands, if only for a few minutes at a time. Find somewhere peaceful and inspiring that is conducive to your thinking process.
Feel it!
Even if you don\’t know all the specific details of what it is you aim to achieve, you can still imagine what it will feel like when you achieve it.
Let these feelings percolate up from your inner being and allow yourself to feel the excitement and vibration that comes with those feelings. Experience the joy and satisfaction – the positive vibrations – associated with achieving your goals or your dreams.
The Law of Attraction
What you are doing here is invoking the Law of Attraction. The clearer and more detailed your vision is, the more powerful the force of attraction that will bring it to you.
By developing a regular habit of visualisation, the sheer volume and intensity of positive vibrations you emit will attract the people, things and resources you need to bring your visions to reality.
Trust the process
You\’re only human. It’s likely that, from time to time, you will have doubts about the link between visualisation and manifestation.
Just keep an open mind and trust in the process. Hold your intent and, in time, the path to your desired future will start to unfold as unexpected opportunities open up to you.
Thanks Bill, we are told without a vision we die, thank God for how wonderfully we are created.
Hi Bill,
An excellent reminder to all of us !! Before I had even finished reading your article I was thinking of the book which I have just completed reading – ” The Law of Attraction ” by Esther and Jerry Hicks ! The Law is so wonderfully explained in their book and I strongly recommend it to all – especially to all Life Coaches !! And, more than just reading the book, start applying the teachings in your own lives. I know that I am going to be doing just that ! Thanks so much, Bill and all the best to you and to all at New Insights, Neil
Thank you Neil,
The Esther and Jerry Hicks books are great. My favourite is ‘Ask and it is given’
Simple but wonderfully powerful messages 🙂
Good day Bill, Thank you for clarity.
You’re welcome Audrey!
You explain the benefits of Visualization so convincingly, Bill. It’s a very powerful force if combined with the other basic principles that you have mentioned.
Thanks Karen. I’m pleased it resonates for you 🙂
