It seems like yesterday – but its actually four years ago now – that I wrote and self published my first (and, so far, only) book, “A Boerewors Roll for the Soul – Awaken to the magic of the life you love.”
I can honestly say I did it for love and the experience, more than anything else. Though I regard myself as a reasonably competent marketer, I admit to having been quite pathetic when it comes to applying any marketing expertise to my book. I guess that’s just never been my focus.
Just the other day, however, an old friend in the UK delivered something of a wake-up call.
Unbeknown to me, he found out about the book, ordered a copy, read it … and then proceeded to give me a polite ‘tongue lashing’ via email.

A Boerewors Roll for the Soul (continued)
Blown away, but …
“Bill, I recently found out you had written a book so I decided to order it and have just finished reading it.
Frankly, I was blown away by the simple yet powerful messages you convey in this delightful, eloquent little guide to living the life you love.
I have a big question for you, my friend … Why the heck are you not doing more to make people aware of this book?
People need this inspiration now more than ever. Knowing you the way I do, I am surprised and disappointed at how you seemed to have bottled this up!”
Food for thought
To be honest, I didn’t quite know whether to feel impressed, offended, happy or sad after reading his email but it did give me some serious food for thought.
A lot of love and passion goes into writing a book and if you’re not in it for the money – let’s be honest, very few books ever make any serious profit – you must be in it because you want to share something that means a lot to you and could potentially mean a lot to others.
As I thought about it I realised that I had done a pretty poor job of sharing the message I had lovingly weaved into A Boerewors Roll for the Soul … and that was doing neither me, nor anyone else out there, any favours!
An invitation to readers
So, with that painful admission – and with Christmas and the holiday season beckoning – I thought I would take this opportunity to make you loyal readers of this Blog aware of the book.
If you like the style in which posts on this Blog are written, you should enjoy A Boerewors Roll for the Soul. I\’m biased of course but I think it could make a great gift. You might like to consider purchasing it for yourself or as present for someone close to you … or even both!
A little background to the book
Allow me to give you a little background to the book and its rather quirky title.
I have been writing weekly personal development articles in some or other format ever since I started in the business of life coach training over seven years ago now.
At the end of 2009 I spent a little time reviewing some of the articles I had written up until then and expressed to my wife, Jenni, that I thought I had more than enough material to write a book.
Coincidentally, she had recently finished reading a couple of books from Jack Canfield’s hugely popular Chicken Soup for the Soul series and, somewhat tongue in cheek (and not fully realising the seriousness of my intent) she suggested I could call the book A Boerewors Roll for the Soul!
We both cracked up laughing.
A what?
Now, if you don’t have any South African roots or connections then you’re forgiven for wondering what on earth a boerewors roll might be?
However, if you have any serious connection to the rainbow nation, you’ll know full well that it’s a hot dog, SA style. In other words, a combination of a local farmer’s sausage on a hot dog roll with plenty of fried onions and relish – a kind of comfort food much loved by the locals.
Every time the name was mentioned it raised a smile (or at least a healthy curiosity). I liked that … and so the name stuck.
An essential guide in four parts
Despite the humorous note in the title, the book is intended as a serious read; an essential guide for living a happy, balanced life.
Divided into four parts, A Boerewors Roll for the Soul takes readers on an inspiring journey that begins with a reminder that true personal freedom comes from developing an open and imaginative mind that gladly accepts and puts to best use, the amazing gift of free will that has been bestowed upon us.
In Part Two, readers are invited to explore the relationships they have with change, and to learn to embrace it rather than fear it in the recognition that, only by accepting change, can we truly grow as individuals.
Part Three builds on the newly instilled belief that each one of us has the ability and capability to design a life filled with true joy and happiness: “If we can liberate ourselves from within to complement the liberation proffered by our source, then we can purposefully create the realities that we desire.”
Finally, A Boerewors Roll for the Soul presents readers with an assortment of simple yet effective strategies for staying the course of change towards the magical life of joy, meaning and fulfilment they intuitively know is there for them to take and love!

Hi Bill,
I think it is wonderful that you have a book available, what is sad that no one knows about it. As an author I know the importance of promoting your book.
However, I see from all the good reviews here, none were posted on Amazon for instance, the reason no one buys or notice the book on Amazon. Reviews are valuable tools for an author.
So to help you it would be beneficial to add the reviews there, and where else on the net; ask the readers to do so.
I am a blogger as well, and do promotions for author’s books, since I believe in supporting my co-author.
If interested you can promote your book on my site, too.

Anyone with an Amazon account who has read the book and would be kind enough to offer a brief review … please click here:

Hi Bill How wonderful that your old friend has made you aware of the potential that your book could have on the lives of many of its readers. There is nothing better than passing on to others, the realization that they too can enjoy the fruits of a decision to exercise their free will which enables all of us to redesign the life for which we have always yearned.
