Start on the Inside

You cannot properly appreciate the external world if your internal world is not in order.

For me, this simple statement explains why so many people underperform against their true potential.

[box type=\”shadow\”]\”The person who does not know how to live while they are making a living is a poorer person after their wealth is won than when they started.\”

โ€“ Josiah Gilbert Holland[/box]

Take me, right now, for instance …

A stunningly beautiful scene

I\’m gazing out over a stunningly beautiful scene. A deep blue, mirror like False Bay, framed by rugged Cape mountains behind which inky grey thunderclouds are amassing, seemingly preparing to unleash a dramatic break in the almost eery stillness and intense heat.

On special days like this, I normally feel deeply connected with and thankful for my environment, very much alive and excited about my chosen role in life, my inner sense of peace reflected in that which I look out at.

Today, however, is very different.

I\’ve been struggling for some days with an aggressive ear infection, no doubt brought on by the swimming season and the bacteria-friendly summer weather.

Decidedly grumpy!

The treatment I\’ve received has rendered me temporarily all but deaf and the combination of hearing loss with the side effects of the infection has left me feeling unwell, strangely disconnected from reality, a little frustrated and decidedly grumpy!

I\’m fortunate (not to mention my family). This feeling will soon pass โ€ฆ but for many, such a state of disconnection and general unhappiness, is more permanent, caused, not by temporary medical conditions but by lack of alignment with their authentic selves.

A consistently peak state internally

To interact optimally with one\’s external environment, and manifest that which one is truly capable of, it is quite clear that one needs to be in a consistently peak state internally. To me this means knowing the authentic you; understanding and feeling aligned with your purpose in life.

In this topsy-turvy, stressful world a great number of us fall into the trap of focusing on trying to make everything OK on the outside before dealing with the issues within – and that simply doesn\’t work because our perspective of the outside world is darkened by very grey tinted glasses.

If you want to live life to the full

If you want to live life to the full, totally appreciate – and feel connected to – the great vibrancy and variety of your external environment โ€ฆ and leave your unique mark on it, you first need to come to terms with who you are, what you are here to do and what it is you want to experience from life.

Life Coaching achieves exactly that!

  1. We all tend to suffer from the “I’ll be happy when” syndrome. It is only when we remember that happiness is always and only a thought away that we regain our connectedness to the innate well being that is an integral part of us.

I think that our bodies are always telling us what we need to know – we forget to listen, because we spend all our time in our heads.

  2. Our extrenal life mirrors our internal life………very much agree with this and your blog……….what do you think of the concept that our bodies often respond physically to what is happening internally eg: an ear infection could mean you are not listening to either someone important or perhaps your own intuition….losing your voice could mean you dont feel heard……I find the concept intriguing and woul welcome your ideas…..Thank you for sharing your life journey with us.

    1. I agree Debbie. I am amazed at how much I learn from my own body when I make and take the time to listen to it! ๐Ÿ™‚ Our bodies reflect what is going on inside. It has a deep wisdom and we are blessed to have this in built compass! ๐Ÿ™‚ Awesome. Thank you for the blog Bill

  3. It is so true. What we say to ourselves, selftalk, has a major impact on how we perecive life out there. It forms pictures and materialize into our realities . We need to become aware of what we say to ourselves….

  4. We can not dismiss one part of our body; everything is working in perfect harmony, if the one is out of balance our whole body is out of balance and we are forced to look deeper, hear intently, listen closely and speak only when necessary. In this we find ourselves and understand those who share our days getting better acquainted to work in perfect harmony, helping each other.

This is your calling, to help others to live in balance, thank you for your calling, your obedience and your pursue of it.

Hope the ear infection clear up soon.

  5. I know so well what you are talking about. I went to the dr yesterday after feeling awful, and being totally deaf for the past couple of weeks. I have infection in my inner ears, and am now taking anti biotics, and some other medicine, and also anti allergy tabs. I really hope this is going to help, because I too have been decidedly grumpy. My sympathy
    Get well soon!

    1. Unfortunately, so many people think that they need to Have things, so they can Do something in order to feel and Be a certain way.
Of course, whole economies are built on that concept too.
And yet, when one aligns with who their truly are and their purpose, it is easy to realise that one has to Be, so they can Do, in order to Have.
Besides, everything flows in a much easier way then.

As for the ear infection, maybe it is your body’s way to “tune you out” of all the economic negativity around as you are reminded of your own body and mind awesomeness (is there such a word? … there ought to be:-)

In any case, I wish you a speedy recovery Bill.
