A Celebration of Life

Home » A Celebration of Life

This week my darling wife, Jenni, has gifted me a rare break from writing our regular Life Coaching Insights Blog post.

Truth is, she’s probably feeling sorry for me given my advanced years (she’s given the game away below!)

Anyway, I’m sure you’ll find reading what she has to say a breath of fresh air.

Do enjoy it!

A Celebration of Life (By Jenni Burridge)

I love life! I love everything about life!

Of the millions of things I hold close to my heart, I love the many roles that I play in this endless dance with humanity.

My roles as mother, wife, friend, daughter, auntie, confidant, sister and Life Coach! To be able to share ideas and perspectives with my clients, is truly a wondrous experience … But, the little “golden nuggets” of AHA moments I receive from them, is the real blessing!

To be able to share a bond and a deep connection with another human being, is sheer bliss. It confirms the knowing that we are all One. Interconnected in the web of life, being guided and protected at all times by Universal Love.

Piglet once asked Pooh: “How do you spell love?” To which Pooh replied. “You don’t spell it … You FEEL it!”

For a bear with “very little brain”, Pooh certainly has an enormous amount of wisdom!

I digress … It was in one of the many heartfelt conversations with a client that the topic of celebration came up. Here is (more or less) what we pondered.

So, why is it that we tend to lovingly celebrate only when we think we have some “thing” to celebrate? Why do we unearth the silverware and the beautiful crockery only when visitors are coming for dinner? Why do we keep candles unlit and fragrant soaps wrapped up, waiting for THE special occasion? Why do us women spend so much time getting ‘glammed up’ for a night on the town?

Can we not wear our bright red lipstick and stilettos while we wash the dishes too?

Why don’t we just celebrate LIFE … every moment of it, in all it’s loving splendour? Why don’t we make each moment a special occasion? What are we waiting for?

You see, Ego says we have to have a reason to be joyful, otherwise we are not worthy of love. But Heart says “I AM joy, I AM love!”

The greatest journey we will ever take, is the journey we take within.

The greatest shift we will ever make, is the shift from head to heart.

I guess we need to love ourselves as much as we love others. We need to recognise our unique magnificence and celebrate the integral part we each play in the turning of life’s wheels.

What if we stopped thinking so much and rather allowed ourselves to BE the love that is our true essence? What a continuous celebration of Life! What fun! What joy!

August 9th this year marks sixty years of Bill’s life celebration! Millions of moments strung together like prayer flags, each, on the winds of life, releasing Blessings into the ether.

So, with much love and joie de vivre, I wish him a very happy Birth-Day and a truly Blessed life!

And for the rest of us, in the words of Pooh …

“Happy un-birth-day!” Happy life!

  1. Thank you for the inspiring blog. You and Bill make a real difference in our lives. Bill, I hope you had a fantastic Birthday. God Bless you both.

  2. Just read your blog, Jenni, and love how who you are just shines through your words. I’m sure Bill had a marvellous Women’s Day Public Holiday BIG Birthday and that the celebrations will continue.

  3. Thank you Jenni,I so enjoyed reading this ,particularly the Pooh bear quotes !
Many happy returns to Bill for his big birthday tomorrow, & wishing him a wonderful year ahead.

Thank you so much Jenni for this beautifully written piece. Many Birthday wishes to you Bill on your very special day. x

  5. Thanks for the beautiful writing Jenni and sharing so authentically from your heart! Seems you have some competition Bill 😉 Happy birthday for the 9th Bill and thank you for all you have done for New Insights and for us as coaches! To the next sixty…:)

  6. Happy Birthday Bill – August 9th. Here’s to sixty years of life celebration! ( Of course this is only one of the dimensions – that I know of – that has time/space demarcations. So Bill anywhere else you would just Be…free to celebrate anytime and ascribe yourself any number you might fancy ). …. “Millions of moments strung together like prayer flags, each, on the winds of life, releasing Blessings into the ether” – How beautifully elegant and poetic Jenni’s description of your life/celebration is . Great post – timely reminder, that although we may be Infinite and Eternal energy – we are only in this physical body for such a short time. ..Also thanks to for the reminder of “The Tao of Pooh” – a very wise bear indeed.
Happy (Un) Birthday to everyone 😉

    1. Yes, I do believe that Pooh never has to have a reason to celebrate! Thank you for your input, Peta!

  7. Thank you for this blog, Jenni. I feel like jumping up to sing a song of joy after reading it. Happy birthday Bill. May there be many more. Carpet diem!

  8. Thanks Jenny for this message. Life is so short, yet we take it for granted. Everyday I hear people complain for just about everything in their life and when you present to them an opportunity that can change their circumstances, they hesitate. All the best to Bill celebrating his birthday.

    1. You are so right, Errol! However, we all have the Power of Choice in our responses to life. We just need to remember and take responsibility for our own happiness … Easy!

Happy 60th birthday on 9 August, Bill. And thank you, Jenni, for the reminder to celebrate (our) life, no matter our biological age.

  10. Jenni, your zest for life comes through so strongly in your writing. Thank you for giving your readers an opportunity to think, to learn and to shift our focus, right this moment. Bill, may you continue to bring out the best in yourself and in others, by being yourself, as you prepare to celebrate your 60th birthday on 9 August. My life has been indelibly transformed by the opportunity my own life coach, Brenda Eckstein, gave me 6 years ago, to embark on a journey within and to commit to a new way of life in which I sharpen my self awareness and constantly ask myself probing questions. What a joy it brings to me and to those with whom I share my God given gifts as a life coach, mentor and speaker.
