Have you ever heard the saying: “There are people who make things happen, people who watch what happens and people who wonder what happened”?
[box type=\”shadow\”]You see things; and you say, \”Why?\” But I dream things that never were; and I say, \”Why not?\”
– George Bernard Shaw[/box]
Your ability to make things happen in a way that brings you joy and happiness depends to a great extent on the belief you have in your own ability to create the life you desire.
Do you fight to control anyone and anything that you perceive as a threat to what you want to achieve in life? Or do you believe that your life is completely preordained?
Or have you found what I call \’the sweet spot\’?
Let\’s take a look at three generic character types:
The \’Controllers\’
Some people misguidedly believe that to create their own reality with any assuredness, they need to gain control – or exert power – over others. It\’s necessary to manipulate and influence others, either overtly or subtly, to get them to follow their way of thinking.
Being ‘in control’ makes these people feel good, at least in the short term. If they don’t get their way – if they feel their control is slipping – they feel threatened. When that happens they are likely to resort to ever less subtle and potentially more ruthless ways to regain the dominance and influence that they feel they need to assure their future.
Examples of people who try to create their desired reality through controlling others are to be found in all spheres of life.
You’ll find controlling types as the instigators in abusive or unequal relationships, in schools (“bullies”), in street gangs and in positions of power and authority in business, in politics and elsewhere.
The \’Passive Observers\’
The passive observer is someone who believes his or her life is shaped by ‘fate’ or ‘destiny’ or some power over which he or she has no control whatsoever.
Passive observers feel, deep down, like corks bobbing on the ocean. They choose simply to watch this ‘mysterious world’ go by, believing in the futility of taking concerted action to change their situations. Why exert energy on what would be a fruitless waste of time?
As with controllers, passive observers are to be found everywhere. In relationships, in business, in the sex industry, in the family home – you name it.
Passive observers can easily fall prey to controllers. They accept that being dominated or pushed around is ‘their fate’ or perhaps even punishment for previous wrongdoings. Submitting to those who would manipulate them or deprive them of their freedom is often seen as a necessary injustice that life will have them bear.
Flawed thinking
Controllers and passive observers fail to appreciate that we live in a Universe in which there is natural abundance and in which we have been endowed with the gift of free will.
There is no need to ‘fight’ for scarce resources. However, by taking no action we can not magically conjure up what it is we require. There is plenty for all who learn to ask… and understand how to receive… what it is they desire.
By exerting control and seeking to take away another’s freedom, you will always lose your own. Likewise, you cannot experience true freedom unless you deliberately seek it.
The \’Deliberate Creators\’
I like to call those who have learnt the art of creating their own reality, the \’deliberate creators\’. These are people for whom life is a never ending, joyful journey of learning, growth and development.
The deliberate creators know that they are the only people who are responsible for the reality that they experience – and the only people able to change that reality.
They gladly acknowledge that other people create their own unique realities too. Whereas they may unselfishly offer to assist, guide and coach others who request it, they accept that it is not for them to try to control the experiences of others and are free from guilt or responsibility therefore.
Deliberate creators feel joy, appreciation and gratitude for their ability to exercise free will. They understand how to use this free will and the power of focused thought to manifest the life they desire.
Deliberate creators live life to the full knowing that their desires are within their reach. They act on the prompts, signals and opportunities presented to them, refusing to dismiss these as chance happenings, coincidences or random events.
They also accept with gratitude – and act on – apparent upsets and setbacks in their life, knowing full well that these are simply opportunities for growth masquerading as challenges.
They have truly found the \’sweet spot\’!
The above commentary and observation is so true. The question is: What does one need to do to be a “deliberate creator” or, put simply, what are the qualities for such an individual and how does one develop and nourish those qualities?
Those who can see beyond tomorrow have the ability to shape the future. Those who are captives of the past cannot enjoy the present. Those who grasp and experience the present not only shape the present, but also the future and they become captains of their own destiny.
