What’s Valentine’s Day got to do with life coaching, you may well ask?
Good question!
Before I try to answer that, let’s first explore the origins of Valentine’s Day.
It’s not nearly as romantic as you might think!
The Roman empire
The roots of Valentine’s Day can be traced back to the Roman Empire.
The Roman calendar featured a holiday in mid February called Lupercalia, which is believed to have involved a celebration of fertility and the pairing off of men and women by the drawing of names from a jar.
In the year 268 an army officer by the name of Claudius Gothicus was proclaimed Roman emperor Claudius II. His short reign lasted until the year 270.
A bloody reign
And, in the tradition of most Roman emperors, it was a bloody reign that included the execution, on February 14th (albeit on different years) of two men, both named Valentine.
These men were apparently devout Christians who refused to convert to paganism. One of them was believed to have angered the emperor by being a catalyst for love by officiating at weddings for Roman soldiers.
Honouring the Valentines
Later, in the year 500, Pope Gelasius I, concerned about the level of debauchery and violent mistreatment of women involved in the Lupercalia festival, took the decision to replace it with St Valentine’s Day, thereby honouring the two executed Valentines and establishing the day as a holiday for romantic love.
Fast forward
Fast forward to the modern day and St Valentine’s Day – heavily commercialised though it has become – is still very much an opportunity for the expression and celebration of romantic love.
Out of the darkness comes light.
Out of bad times comes good.
Out of persecution comes love!
As we know, love is what makes the world go around. To love is to place the welfare of someone else above your own comfort.
The link with life coaching
And that, dear readers, is where the link between Valentine’s Day and life coaching becomes apparent.
Good life coaches put the interests of their clients at the forefront of their coaching. They are catalysts for their client’s growth and development, devoted to helping their clients discover their true inner power and create the lives they desire.
New Insights trained life coaches are given the tools to help their clients find their purpose and live their passion.
This doesn’t happen overnight, it is a process of personal transformation. Exposure to many powerful new insights (forgive me) can bring about big shifts in mindset and outlook.
But when it happens there is no looking back. Life changes, for the better, forever!
Spreading the love
Life coaching involves spreading the love.
So, in wishing you a very happy, love filled Valentine’s Day, I leave you with some food for thought:
Why not dispense with the usual chocolates, red roses and champagne and indulge yourself and your romantic partner in a transformational life coaching programme that can lift your relationship to entirely new levels of love?
With love 🙂
